3 Churches - the ancient churches of Guernsey

The island appears to have been divided into eclesiastical parishes by the 12th century or before. The alleged dedication of the most ancient of our churches still standing is supposed to have been St Sampsons, built on the spot where St Sampson himself landed in Guernsey and which is alleged to have replaced an earlier church raised to the Saint.

The main ancient parish divisions, now anglican (with sub-parish churches) :-

St Peter Port

St Sampson

St Michel du Valle

Ste Marie du Castro

St Saveur

St Pierre du Bois

St Phillipe du Torteval

Ste Marguerite du Foret

St Martin

St Andre

Ste Anne (Alderney)

St Pierre (Sark)

St Tugal (Herm)
