Return to Ormer Home page.

Looking down the beach (next land due west is New York).

At the low water mark looking south (10 meter (33ft) tides.

Standing in the sea looking back toward the top of the beach.

Who finds the first one?

A fine specimen - about 7cm.

A species of small spider crab - quite rare - shell 3cm across.

The most vicious of all ironically called both 'lady crab' and 'devil crab' (the velvet swimming crab)

I must be the only 'crab whisperer!'

Scorpion fish/Bullhead/Father lasher - can you see it?

A decorative animal - seems to have flowed like thick purple paint!

A common sea slug - they come inshore in early spring.

Who else is looking for ormers?

Found it - among seaweed - they eat kelp.

Another 'lady crab' in typical aggression posture.

Could this be Montague's Sea Snail (yes, it is a fish!)

So I turned a big rock and felt a spine go into my finger - this was the culprit!

Note the spines!

Can you see it - well camouflaged!

A cluster of interesting marine organisms - Seaslug, whelk, whelk eggs, brittle star, winkle

A sea spider - can you see the legs (3cm from tip to tip).

Squat lobster - everywhere - this one has lost it's pincers.

A hairy crab!

Occasionally exposed, grey mud, reckoned to be Paleolithic! (by some)!

The edible crab - (Shanker) - Cancer the crab! This one is too small.

Hermit crab.

Now everyone's out enjoying themselves and the tide is coming up.
